چکیده

Two models of dark matter are examined in the context of the bright 511 keV gamma-ray signal observed from the center of the galaxy by the INTEGRAL satellite. A model of annihilating MeV-scale dark matter has been shown by Boehm et al. to be able to provide the required flux of positrons to explain the INTEGRAL signal, and the possible experimental consequences of this model are investigated in rare pion decays. A second possible explanation for INTEGRAL is considered, where TeV-scale WIMPS interacting with a GeV-scale scalar mediator produce positrons through formation and excitation of WIMP-WIMP bound states at the center of the galaxy. It is found that the MeV dark matter model could explain an observed excess in the decay π → e+e−, but that the TeV WIMP model is unable to explain INTEGRAL in the weak-coupling scenario. Brief concluding remarks are made about possible extensions of the TeV WIMP model to strongly coupled systems.

Constraints on the Injection Energy of Positrons in the Galactic Centre Region

Recent observations of the 511 keV positron-electron annihilation line in the Galactic centre region by the INTEGRAL/SPI spectrometer have stirred up new speculations about the origin of the large corresponding positron injection rate. Beyond astrophysical candidates, new mechanisms have been put forward. We focus on the annihilation of light dark matter particles and review the various gamma-r...

Constraints on dark matter and the shape of the Milky Way dark halo from the 511 keV line

About one year ago, it was speculated that decaying or annihilating Light Dark Matter (LDM) particles could explain the flux and extension of the 511 keV line emission in the galactic centre. Here we present a thorough comparison between theoretical expectations of the galactic positron distribution within the LDM scenario and observational data from INTEGRAL/SPI. Unlike previous analyses, ther...

The sky distribution of positronium annihilation continuum emission measured with SPI / INTEGRAL ⋆

We present a measurement of the sky distribution of positronium (Ps) annihilation continuum emission obtained with the SPI spectrometer on board ESA's INTEGRAL observatory. The only sky region from which significant Ps continuum emission is detected is the Galactic bulge. The Ps continuum emission is circularly symmetric about the Galactic centre, with an extension of about 8 • FWHM. Within mea...

The 511 keV emission from the Galactic Bulge observed by INTEGRAL/SPI could be the product of light (1-100 MeV) annihilating dark matter particles. In order to distinguish between annihilating light dark matter scenarios and more conventional astrophysical sources for the bulge emission, we propose to test the light dark matter hypothesis on the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, a close-by galaxy domin...

keV line from millisecond pulsars in the Galactic center

Observations of a strong and extended positron-electron annihilation line emission in the Galactic center (GC) region by the SPI/INTEGRAL are challenging to the existing models of positron sources in the Galaxy. In this paper, we study the possibility that pulsar winds from a millisecond pulsar population in the GC produce the 511 keV line. Our preliminary estimations predict that the e annihil...
